Faces You Should Know: Lucie Jones

If there is anyone that can do it all, it’s Lucie Jones. From getting her start on the X Factor UK back in 2009, Lucie has gone from performing in a musical on the West End of London to hosting for MTV.

Lucie was born and raised in Pentyrch, a small village just outside Cardiff in Wales. At a young age she started vocal training with Louise Ryan, who also worked with stars like Charlotte Church, and went on to play various local gigs around the Northwest area of the United Kingdom. In 2009, Lucie broke out into the limelight as she auditioned for the UK’s biggest show, the X Factor. She immediately won the judges over singing her version of Whitney Houston’s classic “I Will Always Love You,” with Simon stating afterwards, “Lucie, this is why we come to Wales.”
Here is Lucie singing “I Will Always Love You,” at her X Factor audition in Cardiff, Wales.

Lucie continued to impress as she came into Bootcamp (the second round of auditions to decide who will go to the judges houses and then onto the live show) as she sang Christina Aguilera’s beautiful ballad, “Hurt.” This is where Lucie won me over; her voice was so controlled and absolutely stunning. Although there were some doubts from judges Cheryl and Simon because they thought she could only sing ballads, she made it all the way through Bootcamp to the final round; the judges houses. When Danni Minogue was chosen to mentor the girls category, there was no doubt Lucie would make it to the live show, and that she did.
Here is one of my favorite performances from Lucie, singing “Hurt” at Bootcamp.

Lucie went into the live tapings as one of the front runners and clearly showed why as week after week she was able to show how versatile her voice was. From dancing and singing Whitney Houston’s upbeat tune “How Will I Know” to pulling out a powerhouse performance of Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” it was clear Lucie was in it to win it.
Here is Lucie performing a stunning rendition of “Funny Little Valentine” during the show’s ‘Big Band Week.’

In week 5, Lucie sang “This Is Me” from Disney’s hit movie Camp Rock, receiving great reviews from the judges but the public thought otherwise, sending her into the bottom two  along with ‘Jedward’ (John and Edward; a brother duo known for putting on ridiculous performances). Although Simon stated week after week that if Jedward was put in the bottom two he would send them home, he didn’t. The judges were split; Danni and Cheryl both saving Lucie, while Louie and Simon saved Jedward. In deadlock, Lucie unfortunately received the lowest amount of votes and was sent home; her elimination proclaimed as the most shocking of the season and one of the most shocking in X Factor history.

Her elimination did not get her down though. Instead, she used it to kick start her career as after the X Factor tour ended in early 2010, she immediately signed with Select Model Management, booked an episode on The Adventures of Sarah Jane, and then continued to play tons of gigs around the UK.
Here are some of great shots of Lucie modeling.

In May 2010, Lucie received her biggest offer since the X Factor: playing Cosette in Les Miserables on the West End of London (equivalent to the US’s Broadway stage). She starred alongside Nick Jonas and this is where Lucie actually made US papers for her rumored relationship with Nick (also rumors were denied though).

At this point in time, Lucie had shown the public that she could sing, act, dance and model. Was there anything this girl couldn’t do? Apparently not. On top of that, Lucie just recently made her hosting debut for MTV at Beach Break Live, a musical festival in the UK.
Here is Lucie’s hosting debut. So much charisma; I love it!

Lucie has also stated that she has finished her debut album and it is set to release some time soon, something I’m obviously excited about!
Here is Lucie performing her first song to be released from her album, “Superman Flies”

She also continues to record covers of songs on Youtube for all of her fans.
Here is Lucie performing a beautiful cover of “Feels Like Home.”

Here is another video of Lucie performing an incredible cover of the Killers “When You Were Young.”

What I love about Lucie is that she just continues to prove everyone wrong; she’s not just another pretty face. Her talent agent is very lucky to represent someone who is the definition of the “full package.” The minute Lucie makes the move to the US is the minute I would fight to represent her. Keep doing your thing Lucie!
